How long does it take to get a credit card?
Last updated: 20 May 2026
Short answer. If you apply with BankID, many issuers give a preliminary answer within minutes. Final approval and the physical card by post normally takes from a few days to two weeks. You can often add the card straight to Apple Pay or Google Pay and start using it before the plastic card arrives.
The application itself takes a few minutes. You sign with BankID, state your income and confirm your details, and the issuer runs an automatic credit assessment against Gjeldsregisteret among other sources.
The time until the card is in your hand depends on the issuer and the post. Digital access, where you can use the card on your phone, is often ready the same day you are approved, while the plastic card is sent separately.
Applying for several cards with one application via Axo Finans lets you compare the answers you get and choose quickly. You avoid spending time sending separate applications to each bank.
